Evaluators

Why Offer Maine Home Performance with Energy Star?

Every day, Maine Home Performance hears from homeowners asking for home performance assessments. Demand is growing, and it's easy to see why! For many Mainers, their home is the most important asset they own, and they are witnessing the rising cost of heating those homes. At the same time, homeowners want to breathe healthy indoor air, and they want to be comfortable during Maine's long, cold winters.

Many are concerned about the impact carbon emissions from the home have on the planet. The rising price of land, housing and energy makes investing in "whole-house" improvements an appealing option to homeowners. As a result, home performance is a profitable business opportunity, and the Maine Home Performance Evaluators are very busy. The time is ripe for you to become part of the expanding home performance industry!

Training and Support

Long-time professionals in the building and weatherization industries deliver Evaluator training and support for Maine Home Performance.

Rick Karg of RJ Karg Associates trains Evaluators in building science and diagnostics and prepares participating Evaluators for the Building Performance Institute written and field tests. Since 1984, he has been meeting the diverse needs of electric and gas utilities, state weatherization programs, state energy offices, the Department of Energy and private firms.

Participating Evaluators are also supported by Tom Boothby, a builder of several energy-efficient homes in Maine and a former energy specialist with the State's Energy Office.

Performance Systems Development of Ithaca, New York, provides backup support for business tools, such as TREAT software, and business sales techniques. There are bi-weekly webinars (web-based seminars) on TREAT software. This series of webinars is recorded and repeated throughout the year. Individual support on TREAT is available as needed.

Marketing Support

The Program uses strategic marketing and branding to support participating Evaluators. Marketing includes an integrated web site, consumer-directed collateral, an information database called WebEx and outreach through private and public organizations like Maine Partners for Cool Communities, Maine Indoor Air Quality Council and Efficiency Maine.

The Program was launched with a Whole House Makeover Show, an innovative approach to raising awareness of home performance. The Program partnered with local businesses to present one lucky Maine family with a "Whole House" of energy-related home improvements.

The EPA provides additional sales and marketing seminars and supports media campaigns.

Participating Evaluators have access to low interest loans through Maine Housing and other lending institutions.
